Story of the object
By translating - with all the completions and adaptations - “Gray's Anatomy” Grigore T. Popa brought in the Romanian scientific literature, an extremely useful working tool necessary for both medical students and practitioners. The contribution of his wife, Florica Popa, head of works at the Institute of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine in Bucharest, should also be emphasized, who has always supported him in all his activities - be they in the scientific or cultural field.

The book was published in 1944-1945, during the World War II in Bucharest, Romania and consist in 3 volumes. The first two volumes appeared in 1994 and the third one in 1945.
The translation was printed in “wartime, under bombardment followed by fire.” During the editing of the volume, a fire destroyed forty clichés of the original drawings, so that the translators and those working on its printing had to redo the drawings by nature.
Unfortunately, in Romania in the public libraries there are available only the second and third volume. But for those interested in Iasi there are available these volumes (II and III) in two locations: The Central University Library and in The Natural Science Museum, near to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iași.
As the authors sustain, the book should contain 4 volumes. The second volume is entitled Osteologie. Artrologie. Miologie and in the preface the translators explain the methodology they used and the terms they used. The translation took 4 years and it was performed under the advise of the editor Ioan Leon.
