Votive relief dedicated to Hygeia and Asclepius

Story of the object
This relief of around 400 BC was found in the Asclepieion of Piraeus. It is made of marble and it is 79 cm x 42 cm. It was completely restored from fragments. It represents the cure of a woman, which is a typical subject of the presentations related to Asclepius. In the center, the patient appears lying down on a bed while Asclepius bends over her stretching his hands over her to treat her. Behind him, on the right part of the relief, his wife Hygeia stands still and across him, the relatives of the patient that dedicated the relief.
